Ayurvedic Treatment for Relief from Joint Pain:

Ayurveda, an ancient system of knowledge, focuses on keeping the body and its surroundings in balance. According to Ayurveda, our body works well when everything is in harmony. Our joints, which help us move, can face issues like pain when things go out of balance. Joint pain can affect how well we can move and do things in our daily life. Here we will discuss about the Ayurvedic Therapies and Home Remedies for Joint Pain.

Causes For Joint Pain:

According to Ayurveda, when there’s an imbalance in the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), it can lead to health issues. These doshas affect the flow of life force (prana) and the circulation of nutrients in the body. Joint pain, for example, can have various causes like injury or general wear and tear. Ayurveda says joint pain happens when there’s an imbalance in the Vata dosha, responsible for movement in our body. This imbalance is often due to the buildup of Ama, a toxin formed when our metabolism slows down. Too much Ama in our joints can cause pain and stiffness.

Symptoms:

Many of us might experience different types of joint pains, making us wonder why our knees or shoulders hurt. Whether it’s shoulder pain, ankle pain, or knee pain, it’s because the joints in these areas that help us move are causing discomfort. Joint pain is something many adults complain about, and our busy lifestyles and restless habits can make us more susceptible to it. If you have a desk job, engage in physically demanding activities, or are getting older, you might be prone to joint pain. Common signs include redness, tenderness, limping, stiffness, weakness, or trouble moving the joint. Swelling or muscle cramps from an injury or strain can also lead to joint pain.

Ayurvedic Therapies For Joint Pain:

Abhyangam

Abhyangam is a full-body Ayurvedic massage done by two therapists using herbal oils. The massage lasts for about 45-50 minutes in seven different positions. It helps rejuvenate the body, relieve joint pains, and improve overall well-being. The massage involves applying pressure and strokes, which can alleviate joint pain within a few days.

Kizhi

Kizhi uses small pouches filled with powders, herbs, rice, or sand. These pouches are heated and gently poured over the affected area. There are different types of Kizhi based on the substances used. This therapy provides dry heat, helping with joint pains, muscular cramps, spondylosis, osteoarthritis, and lower back pain.

Greeva Basti

Greeva Basti targets the neck region to alleviate pain and stiffness. Medicated oils are poured into a compartment made from wet flour for around 30 minutes. It involves simultaneous sudation and oleation to lubricate the neck and shoulder joints, improving flexibility, and blood circulation, and reducing inflammation and pain.

Janu Basti

Janu Basti aims to improve knee function. Specialized herbal oil is poured over the knee in a mold made of black gram paste or whole wheat flour for 30-40 minutes. This therapy adds flexibility to stiff and painful knee joints, reduces swelling, and improves blood circulation. It is effective for osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and chronic knee pain.

Home Remedies:

Joint pain can make it hard to move and may come with swelling and stiffness. It can be caused by various reasons such as arthritis, gout, or injuries. According to Ayurveda, inflammation and swelling in the joints happen due to an imbalance in the vata dosha. Mild pain can be relieved with natural home remedies while severe joint pain requires professional medical attention.
